So after my self-congratulatory post yesterday, I am back to the Know Thyself Challenge – brought to you by Writer’s Relief.
Actually, before I begin, I just wanted to say that I’ve given this challenge some thought – and I want to shake it up a little. I really enjoyed my Guest Post Series (where I interviewed several bloggers) and I really don’t want to make this challenge all about me. So, I’d love for you all to take part in next weeks questions. For the next 7 days, instead of ME answering them, I’d like it if YOU answered them via the comments. There are so many new bloggers that have started following me recently. It’s a great way for me to get to know you. And I really do! 🙂
Ok. Now. On to the questions:
- Do You Feel You Have Found Your Voice In Your Writing Or Are You Still Searching?
Ah, this is a good question. I do think I have found my voice but it really needs a lot of work. I know HOW I want to write, I know how I want it to look like on paper so now I’m taking the time to focus on learning the techniques that will perfect it.
2. What Are Your Favourite And Least Favourite Parts Of The Writing Process?
Why is it that the least favourite comes to mind so easily?? But truthfully, there aren’t many of those 
. The only thing I don’t like is when I have to force myself to write – knowing that if I don’t I’m losing precious writing/idea/development time. What I love is that I know this attitude is very fleeting – the ‘but I don’t wanna write!’ attitude. It only lasts as long as you want it to. Because once I boil my kettle, get my pen, notebook and laptop ready, open my word file and get typing….well, that process opens up a world of literal euphoria. And that is my most very favourite part of the writing process.

I think voice is always evolving, at least mine is. I think I write a bit too matter-of-factly, and want my writing to flow a little more delicately. I’m getting there, but I’m just not there yet!
My favourite is that sudden surge of creativity that is just bulging with ideas and wants to write, and I get a lot done, but more importantly, that’s when I get a lot of quality writing done too 🙂 My least is probably when I’m lazy. I’m usually a very organised person, but if I’m uninspired I really have to kick myself to write, I just need to discipline myself.

Thanks JLT, I love that you take the time to comment 🙂 You know, I find that my style leans more towards the matter of fact – my thing is that I try to steer away from the flowey style. So I do what you try not to, how funny is that. And interesting. 🙂

I think I have found my voice. At least, I hope it is mine and not some subconscious cribbing of another author’s voice. Least favorite, but most necessary: Editing. I wish I could just sling words to page in a glittering arrangement that makes the cherubs sing arias. However, that is not the case. The editing process for me is more like hewing down a might Sequoia, with an axe, minus the head. Counter-pointing that, the editing process is where I grow the most as a writer. I learn as I correct technical mistakes, I learn where the story might be going and nudge it back on course if need be. Favorite part: The initial draft. Watching the story take shape as it comes from brain to page. It never fails to be rewarding, and fascinating.
