Site Stats – Do They Matter?

I’m feeling a little obsessive about my sites’ stats today. So far I’ve got 977 clicks – not far from 1,000 so for that a big THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY AND READING!

I often wonder how important those stats really are. I have 87 followers – again thank you! – and I hope that these people enjoy my posts. Yes I’d love to have more followers but for me it’s more about connecting with other writers, not so much just getting a ‘fan base’. I’m sure that most of you out there feel the same way.

But it’s that whole popularity thing isn’t it. No matter how much we rebel from it I think, deep down, we want to be liked by everyone. When I was nominated for a Kreativ Blogger Award, I thought my Christmases had all come at once. I was so excited! It boosted my confidence; it made me feel important! Of course people thrive on receiving accolades. It’s part of life. These awards are a great way to network with other bloggers and I know I’ve said this before but I have learned so much in such a short space of time all because of blogging.

Having said that though, I do hope that I don’t end up focussing too much on how many clicks I’m getting a day because that will really take away from the real reason I started my blog.

Still, 977 clicks in just over a month? Now that ain’t bad…..

  1. I totally understand where you’re coming from! I think (personally) I rather get more critiques and feedback over actual page views. It’s hard to get readership feedback sometimes. But I must say, you have a wonderful amount of followers for such a new blog – you should definitely be proud of that!

I try and engage more readers by posting my Posts on stumble upon, facebook, twitter, etc. Since the bulk of my Posts contain photography, I try and extend my reach by utilizing Photography forums (in hopes to get some decent feedback!)

Happy blogging — Keep it up! 🙂

  2. I’m totally with you! My blog is just two weeks old and only has 8 followers! But I’ve found myself obsessed with checking the stats!

When I wrote the following blog this week – Writing with depression – Cure or curse? http://wp.me/p2jw7d-1i traffic to my blog hit twice its usual numbers in one day! My blog has just under 500 hits in two weeks, but on that day alone it had just over a hundred.

Yes, it’s good for self-promotion (I’ve just blogged a teaser about my debut novel which is coming out shortly!), I think it’s equally as satisfying to think that what you write touches people, and may even help people now or in the future.

I’m looking forward to interacting with lots more people over the coming months and years!

    • Do you think that the traffic increased because you wrote about a personal matter? Depression is a very serious topic and applies to thousands of people. I suppose people love reading about exposing topics, thats what draws them in.

Congratulations on doubling numbers in such a short time! 🙂

  3. A little over a week ago my stats jumped to triple digits every day (my highest was 519) but now I’m tooling along at around 60 per day on average. The trick is to tweet to companies that you mention in your blog, tweet to organizations that would like your articles, comment on other blogs and other things. I will be putting out the word to some big time bloggers offering to guest post. This helps, too, but ultimately we can’t get all hot and bothered if we have a lackluster week or month. Just keep at it, post every day and hope for the best. As you say, my best interaction blogging has been the opportunity to meet some more accomplished writers and get some really good advice.

  4. Site stats matter as much as you want, I think. It is a measurement. Personally I like stats, however I think that more important are comments because that is the actual interaction between reader and blogger.

    • Yep, I agree. I do get comment envy from some bloggers out there who generate 10 plus comments per post. I’d love to get to that level of interaction on my posts.
