Tonight’s post is a little different. I won’t be sharing any excerpts or poems. Instead, I thought I would ask your opinion on a couple of photos which I have chosen for the possible cover of the book of poems I want to publish. Just to refresh your memory, a month or so ago I started toying with the idea of self publishing a collection of poems I wrote in my late teens/early twenties (I have posted a few of these on previous Open Mic Nights). I thought it a good idea that the cover page should reflect the inspiration from those days – coffee and cigarettes 🙂
Well, I am 95% sure I am going to go ahead with it so I had a couple of photos taken that I am thinking of using.. I have posted them below; please give me your opinions. If they don’t look good, do let me know – I’m open to any kind of critique 🙂
I definitely like the blue one better, but so many people are against smoking these days that the cigarette might be a reason not to buy.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I see what you mean though its only a picture, I think I’ll be able to get away with using it 😉

So you definitely lean towards the blue one too!

Hmmmm…..I’m not sure…..I think I’m a little more swayed to the black and white one 🙂

I would suggest the color version (perhaps in b&w? or going for an actual misted or swirl of smoke? effect rather than out of focus on the other) only because I wear glasses and can’t look long at blurred photos.

Thanks for the input :). I tried black and whiting the coloured photo, it didn’t look good at all which is a shame.

I personally like bookcover1.1.1.jpg, the black and white photo. It seems, I dunno, more artsy…Plus the cup looks like it holds more coffee, and I am a huge fan of that. The other one seems a bit, bright and cheery. Like an advert for some mood stabilizers from the Pharmaceutical company. The B&W picture seems more in the same tone as the few poems you’ve posted here, so I think that makes it a good match.

‘ Like an advert for some mood stabilizers from the Pharmaceutical company. ‘. Too funny!!! Yes, I’m leaning towards the b&w one too.

I like them both, but I like the one with the blue cup the most. I think the colors are quirky enough to be attention getting. The font for your name is a little hard for me to read, for what that’s worth. Could just be me. Best of luck! I enjoy your blog.

I prefer the colored one (blue cup, red pencil) mainly because the font is so much easier to read. I also like that the words on the page seem to match the font above them.
In the black/white cover the ‘d’ in ‘mind’ is completely lost, making it difficult to interpret what the title is.

Yeah, you’re right. I should tweak the writing on the black and white one – thinking of putting the writing on the cup. My friend shot the coloured one and we added the fonts on her computer, ironically the font is called ‘Virginie’. I’ll see if I can download it and apply it to the b&w one 🙂

Oooooo, I like both, but, I prefer the black and white one. The only problem is you can’t see your name properly. Would it be better/how would it look with your name and the title on the cup?
Xx

Thanks Vikki 🙂 Yeah, I was thinking of putting the words on the cup too but thought it might look a little naff? I’ll try it 🙂

I like the black and white one – very artsy. Your name needs to be in white writing 😉

I like the second photo better, but I feel like the text should be a bright white because it’s hard to see what it says. That said, the second one is great otherwise.

Thanks 🙂 Yep, will re-do the font, and the more I look at both photos the more I like the b&w one 🙂
