Lucky 7 MeMe

Today I am going to do something I’ve never done before……

dun dun dun……

Vikki over at The View Outside has graciously tagged me and at first I thought…hmmmm after yesterday’s post about all of my writing insecurities and the lack of progress of my work in progress, maybe I’m not qualified to participate.

My second (and prevailing) thought was – NO! I most certainly will do this! Isn’t this exactly the defeatist attitude that has gotten me into the insecure funk?? Yes. It is. So. Here are the rules:

1. Go to the 7th or 77th page of your WIP

2. Go to the 7th line of the page

3. Copy the next 7 sentences or paragraphs. Remember, they must be as they are typed.

4. Tag 7 authors.

5. Let them know they’re it!

Ahhhhh……this is the first time I Am The Damned is getting an audience. It’s still in its first baby stages……. oh my, I feel so naked…….

Gary knocks on my door. ‘It’s lunch time’. He comes in ass first, holding a tray of shit. I mean, food. ‘And don’t forget, your mother is coming to see you today’. He smiles.
As if that makes it all ok.
That drug addicted alcoholic wants to see me? Why? Does she want me to kill her?
I sit up in my bed and wait for Gary to leave before I tuck into my 5 star lean cuisine. ‘I’ll come and get you when you’re done. She’ll be here in half an hour.’
Gary hesitated before making his way to the door. Turning, he asks me, ‘You do want to see her, don’t you?’
I shrug. ‘Why is she here?’
‘So she can talk to you’
‘But it’s been such a long time,’
He looked at me with a half cocked smile. ‘Emma, really?’
‘It has,’ It came out almost a whisper.
‘Be nice to her’, He opened the door. ‘Especially today,’

I bent the rules a wee bit, put in a little more than 7 sentences 🙂

Now, to tag the next 7 authors:

Julie Israel

Steven Bell

AM Schultz

Kirsten

Chris Stocking

Holly Michael

M S Fowle

You’re all it! 🙂

    • BTW, I thought your excerpt was well written. It left me with a good number of questions. The least of which is: Does the ‘5 star lean cuisine’ refer to the frozen dinners, or is it something else?

      • Thanks Steve :).’ 5 star lean cuisine’ was meant to come across sarcastically; she’s not a fan of the food, is being ungrateful and very short sighted about her situation.
She will take a simple thing like food and completely distort it. But I’m glad it kept you guessing 🙂

  4. Brilliant! I love your excerpt and the meme idea (props to whoever made it!) My favorite detail is “ass first”. Pure class right there 😉 Thank you for the tag, too; I look forward to playing!

  6. I loved the excerpt, and would love to read more! Good job with that. I like how Emma’s reaction to the food displays her attitude about the facility she is in.
I’m another one who is terrified about sharing work, but have found the only way past this is to just do it. Baby steps. 🙂

Thanks for the tag! I’ll have to see what page 77 holds in store for me …

    • Thank you, that really means a lot. I was so skeptical about posting an excerpt, especially as its in first draft but it really did motivate me to keep sharing (I’m working on it!) Can’t wait to read yours 🙂
